QR Codes and Privacy
Understand what a static QR code contains and what happens when a user scans it.
Static QR codes
A static QR code directly contains the information encoded when it was created. If it contains a URL, changing the destination normally requires creating a new QR code unless you use a redirect URL you control.
Scanning is not the same as storing
Generating a static code does not require a permanent user account. When you scan a code, the scanner may open a website, phone action or another application according to the encoded data.
Be careful with sensitive data
A QR code can be photographed or copied. Avoid putting passwords, private keys or other secrets into a code that will be publicly displayed.
Tip: Use our free tools to test your code, then scan the final version before sharing or printing it.
